چکیده

Measurements of ice cloud lidar ratio from the University of Wisconsin High Spectral Resolution Lidar System (UW HSRL) are shown, for the period 2013/06/18-2013/11/04 in Hunstville, AL. These data were acquired as part of the SEAC4RS campaign. The layer-averaged median lidar ratio ,at 532 nm, for non-precipitating ice-clouds, 0.3 < OD < 3.0, observed during the experiment was determined to be 25.7 +/10.6 sr. As part of this work we’ve also developed an automated cloud and precipitation classification and detection algorithm.

Long-term trend analysis and climatology of tropical cirrus clouds using 16 years of lidar data set over Southern India

Sixteen-year (1998–2013) climatology of cirrus clouds and their macrophysical (base height, top height and geometrical thickness) and optical properties (cloud optical thickness) observed using a ground-based lidar over Gadanki (13.5 N, 79.2 E), India, is presented. The climatology obtained from the ground-based lidar is compared with the climatology obtained from 7 and a half years (June 2006–...

Comparison of Aerosol Classification Results from Airborne High Spectral Resolution Lidar (hsrl) Measurements and the Calipso Vertical Feature Mask

The NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) airborne High Spectral Resolution Lidar (HSRL) on the NASA B200 aircraft has acquired large datasets of aerosol extinction (532nm), backscatter (532 and 1064nm), and depolarization (532 and 1064nm) profiles during 18 field missions across North America since 2006. The lidar measurements include scale-invariant aerosol parameters that vary with aerosol typ...

Influence of local surface albedo variability and ice crystal shape on passive remote sensing of thin cirrus

Airborne measurements of solar spectral radiance reflected by cirrus are performed with the HALO-Solar Radiation (HALO-SR) instrument onboard the High Altitude and Long Range Research Aircraft (HALO) in November 2010. The data are used to quantify the influence of surface albedo variability on the retrieval of cirrus optical thickness and crystal effective radius. The applied retrieval of cirru...
